Collection: Jemma Ennis

Jemma's art blends influences from Color Field painters, Constructivism, and Pop Art, citing admiration for artists like Hilma af Klint, Yayoi Kusama, David Hockney, Richard Hamilton, Richard Diebenkorn’s Ocean Park Series, Wassily Kandinsky and El Lissitzky, along with NZ artists Jeena Shin and Sara Hughes.

Her current series delves into fragmentation, manipulating images until they're nearly unrecognizable, representing the midway point between abstraction and clarity. She dissects familiarity into geometric mosaics, unified by color and form.

The process of creation holds equal significance to the final piece of art. Being a graphic designer unconsciously permeates her art practice with straight edges, geometric shapes, luscious colour palettes and simple compositions.

In 2017, she established Studio 6 in Queen Street, sharing space with five other artists. Her artwork, is sought after by collectors worldwide, and her painting ‘Looming Norman’ was purchased by the Wallace Arts Trust.
