Collection: Sarah Featon

Sarah Featon, a notable New Zealand botanical artist from 1848 to 1927, is renowned for her role in illustrating the "Art Album of New Zealand Flora," published in 1888. This groundbreaking book aimed to challenge the misconception held by botanists that New Zealand native plants lacked flowers. Notably, it was the first fully colored publication produced in New Zealand. The intricate chromo-lithographs of her botanical watercolor illustrations were executed by the esteemed Bock and Cousins lithographers in Wellington.
