Eileen Mayo was a celebrated British-New Zealand artist known for her vibrant prints and illustrations that beautifully captured the essence of nature. Born in 1912 in the UK, she moved to New Zealand in 1962, finding endless inspiration in the stunning landscapes and unique flora around her. With innovative techniques in lithography and screen printing, Eileen quickly gained recognition, and her works are featured in prominent collections. Her playful use of color and bold designs reflected her love for native plants and animals.
Throughout her 60-year career, spanning the 1920s to the 1980s across England, Australia, and New Zealand, Eileen was passionate about teaching and mentoring aspiring artists, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire today. Before her passing in 1994, she was honored as a Dame Commander of the British Empire, with her work most celebrated and collected in New Zealand, where she spent the remainder of her life.
