Zoë Marsden

Zoë Marsden is a British-born artist based in Wellington, New Zealand, whose highly detailed oil paintings depict abandoned and idiosyncratic buildings filled with atmosphere and mystery. She approaches these forgotten structures as portraits, capturing both their physical presence and emotional weight.

Zoë won the Craigs Aspiring Art Prize in 2024 for her painting The Lookout and has been a finalist in the New Zealand Paint and Printmaking Awards and the Walker & Hall Art Awards.

Before returning to her fine art practice in 2022, she worked for 16 years in film and television as a painter and prosthetic make-up artist on productions including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Game of Thrones and Avatar.
